Spring riding conditions dominate across the open northern hemisphere resorts. Some fresh snow fell in Austria over the weekend and a light dusting could fall in North America on Tuesday night.
10cm of snow has fallen at the Molltal glacier, Austria, providing powder skiing across the glacier. The Dachstein glacier is now closed until the 20th May for snowsports.
In France Val d?Isere is now closed for the winter season and this is the last week of skiing at Tignes before they close in preparation for the summer season. The only slopes that are open this week are on the Grande Motte but there is a good variety of blue, red and black runs open.
Saas Fee is now closed for the winter season. Zermatt is the only open Swiss resort we report on, although there is plenty of terrain open for anyone heading out for some sunshine and spring snow.
The only summer skiing destination we report on that is currently open in Italy is Presena. Sunny weather and a deep snow base provide ideal spring riding conditions.
Good riding can be enjoyed on the 363 acres of open trails at the Blackcomb glacier at Whistler in Canada.
The riding at Timberline in the USA is excellent. The snow base is still over 5 metres and there are three parks open for anyone wanting to perfect their moves.
North America
The Blackcomb glacier (239cm) at Whistler has 363 acres open on Tuesday and 37 groomed trails. The trails to head for are Hugh's Heaven and Ridge Runner which are in great shape. It is going to get cloudier on Tuesday with snow expected later on in the evening. The weather will then clear again for the rest of the week.
Timberline (556cm) has an excellent snow base providing fantastic spring riding which is further enhanced by the beautiful sunny weather at the start of this week. The Conway?s, Glade and Paintbrush freestyle parks are open from 9am until 2.30pm. Clouds are forecast from Tuesday evening through to Thursday, which could deliver a light dusting of fresh snow.
